The National Basketball League of Canada is set to welcome their 10th franchise into the league in time for their third season getting underway this fall.
Helping fill the void left by the OHL’s Battalion moving to North Bay, the Powerade Centre is slated to be home to the brand new Brampton A’s – who, along with the Ottawa Not-Tomahawks, will take the court as an expansion team in October 2013.
According to a terribly-formatted (but I toughed it out, just for you guys!) article in the Brampton Guardian the team will be wearing red and black jerseys, but no other details on the identity have been released.
As for “Why A’s?”, good question. No official reason has been provided, but the owner of the club, Jesse Tipping, is also the owner of the “Athlete Institute” – a training centre north of Brampton. I’m going to go out on a limb here and say the A’s are named for this other enterprise of his and will be an abbreviation of either “Athletes” or “Athletics” much like the Major League Baseball team does in Oakland.
