The away uniform itself is quite nice and the lederhosen nod is a bit of a playful wink to the Oktoberfest tradition but those grey and green training jackets and caps give it a rather unsavoury military look (and don’t give me the feeble ‘Bavarian mountain wear as a source of inspiration’ argument), especially considering it is 80 years ago to the year (1933) that a certain frustrated painter from Austria with a peculiar taste in moustaches rose to power in Germany, partly via overwhelming support for him in Bavaria. Please drop these jackets and caps ASAP, dear Bayern! I know the club had (and still has) no sympathy for the screaming dictator and his ideas (Bayern’s president and coach during the early thirties were both Jewish and had to flee the country and the club was taunted by locals and reprimanded by the totalitarian regime for being a ‘Jew’s club’) so to have these designed must have been an unconscious sartorial blunder.
