The New York Americans only changed their name to Brooklyn, they never played a game there.

The New York Americans moved to Brooklyn in 1941. If the Islanders change their name it will be to “Americans.” I am 100% sure.

So I blame THEM, not AECOM.

As for the uniforms, don’t change anything!

Nice effort, by the way, Chris! The only thing missing is the herringbone pattern in the white striping as an extra reference to their co-renters and their court. As for the seating arrangement, those Brooklyn hipsters won’t mind missing half of the action. They will be too busy blogging and instagramming about the lattes being subpar and the lack of a real barbour shop at the Barclay’s. What if I want to trim my beard during intermission?.

Thanks for the link Sylvain, I had heard something about it. 6 Islanders home games a year and 38 AHL games. Who will be the AHL team? Bridgeport?? That part doesn’t make sense at all unless they are planning to have a new AHL team in a few years or plan to move the Bridgeport team which is the Islander affiliate. Hadn’t heard anything about all that.I guess that is what ChrisZ talks about below or above, concerning the new capacity…..Go Devils on Sat!!

It still looks cool though.
From the get go , I didn’t like this Brooklyn idea at all. As Aaron mentions and is correct, this is about the same set up the Coyotes had at American West Arena. Those seats overhang the perimeter and people will have to watch the goalie below on a big screen as they will not be able to see the action below. Horrible situation. I do hope they still play some games at Nassau. If I were to fly out to see an Islanders game , I would rather go to Nassau Coliseum then Barclay’s Center anyday!

I don’t know if they will be back to Nassau Coliseum, as the renovations are going to scale the arena down a lot. Like to 3,000-4,000 seats. It was already the smallest arena in the NHL. Don’t think they will want to move to an arena configured AHL-size.

On a side note, I’ll be at that game in Brooklyn on Saturday. I’m a Devils fan and figured I’d take the trip up to see the new arena. Hopefully it’s nice. I’m sitting up high, but it should be nice.

One of the reasons why the Coyotes left the US Airways Arena to their current wasteland home in Glendale. However since the Isles move to Brioklyn is a couple years away at least, this gives time to do some alterations to make the Barclays Center more hockey friendly.

The guys at Brooklyn centre have got the contract to renovate the Nassau coliseum which is kind of odd and strange. If the seating arrangements don’t work, will they move back to Nassau in 2020???

They’re leaving a building that no one goes to, that’s probably ready to fall over… beggars shouldn’t be choosers. The Islanders are deserved members of the NHL & this better than moving them to Kansas City or anything.
Barclay’s should see a healthy attendance… that seating shot seems to show a lot of empty available space for temporary hockey seating at rinkside. They could even create a v.i.p. fanzone there for 30-40ppl, snackbar, wait staff, etc.

A storied franchise should never leave (I’ll bemoan the Athletics move to KC until I draw my last breath) their home.

Note to Islanders: Please, please, please, don’t go all Anaheim baseball or hockey on us and refer to yourselves as the “New York Islanders of Brooklyn”.

That arena was built specifically as a “basketball” arena, not a “multi-purpose” arena. That’s why the seating layout is so messed up for hockey.

Actually the Brooklyn Americans, despite the name, never played in Brooklyn. They played in Manhattan, shared the (old) Garden with the Rangers.

They probably mean for the Islanders but still… it’s confusing!

You think they would have thought of this when they built the arena last year.

At least Nassau will be gone. It feels like it’s lit by a single 40 watt light bulb.

I wish that the Nassau Coliseum would have been demolished already because the arena lost its fame a long time ago – when the Isles last won a playoff series about 20 years ago.

The NY Islanders are a great organization, who have had troubles since the mid-1990s from when the Isles adopted a fisherman logo to Spano failed attempt to buy the Islanders and turned out to be a fraud.

The Barclays Centre can help rebuild the New York Islanders reputation. Buying out Rick DePietro;s massive 15-year contract and named John Tavares captain is a good start, but moving the Isles to the Barclays Centre would complete the rebuilding process.
