The WHL’s Saskatoon Blades will be wearing their first of several throwback uniforms throughout the season during their game against the Swift Current Broncos on November 1st.
The Broncos are honouring the 50th anniversary of their time in Saskatoon with a series of throwbacks in 2013-14. For the game next Friday they’ll be wearing their first jersey, from the 1964/65 season seen below:
From the team website:
We’re debuting our first theme jersey during their 50th anniversary season and it’s the Original Saskatoon Blades sweater! The vintage looking jerseys will once again be auctioned off during the game and they look great, so you won’t want to miss getting your hands on them.
Saskatoon started out in the Saskatchewan Jr. Hockey League in 1964 before switching to the Western Hockey League during it’s inaugural season in 1966-67. They are the only team in the WHL to play in every season of it’s operation. Despite this the Blades have never won the WHL championship, but have competed twice in the Memorial Cup tournament as the host team in 1989 and 2013.
