The armband carries a different meaning on the road jersey with the city across the chest rather than “Red Sox”. Just a thought.

I must say, I have seen the play a couple of dozens of times today and I can finally understand why the umpires called it. It is even more or less explicitly mentioned in the rules. It is just unfortunate to have happened as the conclusion of a very tight game. And for the record, I am a die hard Mets fan since 1977. So I am used to being taken for an idiot who does not understand the game 🙂

Hence the armband on the grey jersey and, as stated above, in order not to interfere with the Sox logo on the left sleeve it is placed on the right sleeve.

The bombings occurred approximately an hour after the game concluded.

The Sox had just wrapped-up a three-game sweep of the Tampa Bay Rays with a 3-2 win in their traditional Patriots Day morning game. The game having finished at 2:10 PM, the Red Sox were in their Fenway Park clubhouse, preparing to depart on a road trip to Cleveland, when the explosions occurred at 2:49 PM. Players began receiving initial information about the attacks as they were being bused to the airport to board their flight to Cleveland.

That being said I can completely see why they called it. This one call is not the reason we lost. Twice we blew a two run comeback, Manager John Farrell left a pitcher in to bat in the top of the ninth with the score tied. Plus that was Worman’s first EVER at in the big leagues. There is more then enough blame to go around.

I am not a Red Sox fan. And, being an idiot, I know the rules about obstruction, but they have been applied the wrong way and should be written anew: this was not a case of obstruction on purpose. But I will rest my case, this is a site about logos and uniforms, not for discussing blatant errors.

Unlike being grateful for the botched obstruction call of last night (and I am not even a Red Sox fan). In spirit with this site I suggest a nicely designed Botched Obstruction Call patch to be worn on Red Sox road jerseys for 2014 should they lose this World Series. And the obstruction rule should be re-formulated during the off season: how can a player not be in the way when he is lying face down on the field with a guy on his back who is using him as a starting block from a track race? Should the fielder always assume a death feigning possum or planking position when he hits the ground and a runner is nearby?

On the home jersey the Boston (B Strong) patch is on the left shoulder, this same area of the jersey on the road jersey is already occupied by the primary hanging Sox logo. So rather than having it on opposing side of the jersey depending on where the game is played they chose to do the armband on the road gray jerseys. Similarly last season the Sox ran into the same issue with the passing “Mr Red Sox” of Johnny Peskey. The main issue that seasons was that on the right side of all jerseys was the 100th Annivarsay of Fenway patch. The one inch black circle with the white number 6 was placed on the left sleeve (Note there were a few odd games wear the tribute varied). With no room on the road gray jersey they had to do the armband in that case as well. Back to the season when Dustin Pedroia, David Ortiz and Clay Buccholtz were in the All Star Game and the post season and World Series Patches leaving no room on the right side of the jersey jersey Boston planed ahead and once again opted for the armbands. Both seasons the alternate blue and red jerseys had the tribute patch on the left sleeve leavening the gray as the only ones to have the armbands.
