The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (AAA New York Yankees) of the International League announced today that they will be wearing a throwback jersey for one game this season in honour of their 25th anniversary.
The jersey will showcase three incredibly different eras with separate colour schemes, all mashed together in one jersey. Neat idea. The result leads to a jersey with blue pinstripes on the front, red on the back, and several different logo patches.
The unique idea was the result of a brainstorming session between the RailRiders staff, led by Fan Experience Manager Victor Sweet and OT Sports, the company producing the jerseys.
“We look at the three names as three distinct eras over the past 25 years.”, RailRiders President and General Manager Rob Crain told SportsLogos.Net in an email. “We wanted to come up with a unique way to celebrate our 25th anniversary game, which occurs on June 7th, which is our 25th scheduled home game this coming season”
The front of the jersey features navy blue pinstripes from their days as the SWB Yankees as well as their Yankees logo on the front-right chest, on the opposite side of the chest is the current SWB RailRiders logo.
On the back, red pinstripes for their years as a Philadelphia Phillies affiliate, when they were known as the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Red Barons, a Red Barons logo is placed at the back collar above the player number. The sleeve features the SWB RailRiders 25th anniversary logo patch.
If you’re in the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre area, I recommend heading out to the ballpark on June 7th when the RailRiders take on the Toledo MudHens to see these uniforms in person; and if you want to own one, jerseys will be auctioned off after the game with proceeds going to a local TBD charity.
