The Atlanta Braves became the latest MLB team to introduce a patriotic/military themed alternate jersey when they unveiled this new look at a press conference earlier today.
The new red “Military Appreciation” jersey with a blue-and-white star pattern (like that on the American flag) on the “Braves” script will replace the Braves’ red alternate jersey they had been wearing since the 2005 season.
Not only is the script different, it’s also missing the Braves’ trademark tomahawk, which had been present on their previous red alternate jersey. The Braves have now introduced two new in-game uniforms in a row with just the script and no tomahawk across the chest.
The Braves join the New York Mets and Cincinnati Reds as teams introducing military themed alternate uniforms during this off-season. The San Diego Padres have also been wearing one for over ten years and will continue to do so in 2014.
