Remember back in October when we covered the Akron Aeros becoming the Akron RubberDucks (which resulted in this awesome headline)? The team has now unveiled their uniform set for their first season under their new identity, and there are plenty of uniforms and a pretty cool pair of socks to go with it.
As a reference, here’s the logo set that they unveiled back in October:
As we mentioned earlier, the team has 5 uniforms: A traditional set of white & gray jerseys for home & road respectively, a cream home alternate, a blue alternate jersey, and a black alternate jersey. As you can see in the logo set above, the team clearly has an idea of what hat they’ll be wearing with each uniform so it doesn’t appear as if there will be too much mixing & matching of uniforms. The biggest thing to come out of the unveiling wasn’t the hats, the jerseys, or even the pants. It was the socks.
In an era where it seems as if the majority of baseball players prefer to wear their pants “pajama style” by showing off as little sock as possible (as popularized by most of the 2004 World Series Champion Boston Red Sox), the Akron RubberDucks have apparently decided to buck that rend by bringing back the look of rolled up pants with striped socks. This development, combined with most of the St. Louis Cardinals showing off their socks on a somewhat regular basis seems to lend hope to the idea that maybe this look will start to become the norm, instead of being a bit of a niche look. Either way, the RubberDucks appear to be committed to doing their part in bringing the look back.
But what do you think about the entire set for the Cleveland Indians’ AA affiliate? Are you a fan of the modern look combined with the old school sock flashing? Or do you think that the whole thing is a hodgepodge of bad ideas? You know we want to hear what you think, so don’t hesitate in letting us know!
