The Fresno Grizzlies and Albuquerque Isotopes of the Triple-A Pacific Coast League will flash back 60 years and pay tribute to a long-standing rivalry between their parent clubs.
As part of their “New York Giants 1954 World Series Ring” giveaway on May 17, the Fresno Grizzlies (Triple A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants) will be wearing “1954 inspired” New York Giants uniforms. Their opponents, the Albuquerque Isotopes (Dodgers’ AAA) will do the same and wear uniforms paying tribute to the Brooklyn Dodgers.
Neither uniform design was actually worn by the Giants or Dodgers in 1954, and they both use the same template. Piping down the middle and on sleeves, cap logo on the left chest.
Now, had the clubs worn the actual ’54 Giants and Dodgers uniforms they’d look like this:
Just beautiful.
Fresno made national news recently with the announcement they’d be wearing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles uniforms for a game in August this season. While we appreciate the more traditional nature of what they’ll be wearing in the 1954 game against Albuquerque, wouldn’t the Isotopes be the perfect opponent for any cartoon-themed jersey game?
Eh, maybe next year.
