Marlins 2014: Orange Caps Return, Greys Still M.I.A.

The Miami Marlins will be bringing back the brightest cap in their rotation for the 2014 season, making it’s first on-field appearance in nearly two years.

Miami last wore it’s “red-orange” cap on June 6, 2012, during an 8-2 loss to the Atlanta Braves.

Courtesy a post on “On Cloud Conine”, a Marlins fan blog, Miami’s 2014 home uniforms will line up like this:

Home white uniform with standard black cap
To be worn for all home games Mondays through Thursdays

Home white uniform with alternate orange cap

To be worn for all Friday home games

Alternate black uniform with BP black and orange cap
To be worn for all Saturday home games

Alternate orange uniform with standard black cap
To be worn for all Sunday home games

According to the site, this schedule will not apply for the home opener, which means the team will be not be wearing their official home uniform combination for Opening Day. The Texas Rangers (red), Cincinnati Reds (red), Los Angeles Dodgers (alt grey), and San Diego Padres (camo) are other teams who have announced or already have worn an alternate jersey for their respective Opening Day in 2014.

The orange cap wasn’t the only uniform element missing from the Marlins rotation in 2013, their road grey jerseys also were not worn with the team deciding they weren’t going to use them prior to the season, they instead opted to go black with a few games in orange.

Looks like it’ll be the same in 2014.

In an email to SportsLogos.Net from Matt Roebuck, Marlins Director of Media Relations, it was confirmed that the team will not be wearing their greys this season.

Miami hasn’t worn their standard road greys since September 25, 2012.
