The Houston Astros and Baltimore Orioles will wear Negro League throwback uniforms when they take part in the 2014 MLB Civil Rights Game on May 30th.
Houston will be wearing the uniforms of the Houston Eagles, the only Texas team in the Negro Baseball Leagues. The Eagles played in Houston originally from 1949-50 after relocating from Newark where they were known as the Newark Eagles (and wore these same uniforms) from 1936-48.
Baltimore will counter with the Baltimore Elite Giants, a Negro League team who played from 1938-50.
Jerseys were produced by Majestic, caps by New Era, and both designs were approved by the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum. There will be a special 2014 Civil Rights Game patch on the sleeve of each jersey and the side of each cap.
This will be the first time teams will wear Negro League uniforms for the annual Civil Rights Game, in the past clubs have worn generic “fauxback” style uniforms, special patches on their cap, or just their standard game uniforms.
