2014 Memorial Day MLB Camouflage Uniforms

Just a week after seeing this years batch of camouflage “Stars and Stripes” caps we now have photos of all the 2014 “USMC” jerseys to be worn by each of the 30 MLB teams on Memorial Day, May 26th.

Not a surprise, more camouflage.

I’m still not a fan of all these camouflage uniforms, I’m not sure I’ll ever be. Yes, I do realize it’s being done to honour veterans – and I’m certainly not saying veterans shouldn’t be honoured – but I think it should be done in a more respectful manner. I really like what the league does now to mark September 11th, wearing a US flag patch on the side of the regular team cap, or do like they do on Mother’s/Father’s Day – a red, white, and blue ribbon with a US flag on it affixed to the front of every jersey.

Or you could really make the vets happy by getting rid of interleague play and the DH rule for a day… my ancestors fought for the Yankees and Cardinals to play each other in October, not May. Amiright?

Anyways, the 2014 design is the same as 2013 with one notable (and much appreciated difference), teams were given the option of wearing their alternate jersey colour instead of just white or grey, unfortunately only 7 of the 30 teams playing opted to go this route. The camouflage script looks absolutely terrible on grey road jerseys (white jerseys too, really), as you’ll see in the photos below it looks much better on the alternate jersey colour.

The Toronto Blue Jays will be wearing a special camouflage pattern, theirs will be based off of CADPAT (Canadian Disruptive Pattern), used by the Canadian military, which is much more green than the US pattern. Of note, the Blue Jays are not using the exact Canadian pattern, instead one based closely off of it — it is actually against the law in Canada for any non-military member to wear the exact pattern.

Wanna buy one of those caps or jerseys? You can do that here.

Sorry, couldn’t find what the Cubs will be wearing. I’ve been hearing reports that they’ve made a last second change to their Memorial Day outfit, the caps originally had red as the bill colour but as you’ll see above it’s now blue.

The Angels, Marlins, Diamondbacks, Mariners, Royals, Rockies, and Pirates are the seven clubs who opted to wear an alternate colour. Thank you to each of those teams.

We have one all-alternate battle when the red-and-camo Angels take on the teal-and-camo Mariners. Kinda bad news when a colour combo like that is a highlight.

Finally, for some reason the Padres, Mets, and Reds have special camouflage uniforms for Memorial Day despite the fact they already regularly wear another camouflage jersey and cap design throughout the season.
