According to a source who informed Sixers blog Interstate 76ers, the answer to the question posed in the headline appears to be a “yes:” For the 2015-16 NBA season, the Philadelphia 76ers could be looking at a major uniform switch.
From the blog:
A uniform change would then signal a new era of winning for the [76ers], eschewing the losing ways of these past few years.
No word was given as to what the uniform designs would look like, what changes to the current uniforms would be made, or what colors these threads would even be. The timetable of when the organization would make the announcement of the switch and when they would exactly be unveiled was not made clear, only that they would be rolled out for the 2015-16 season.
If that is indeed the case, then it appears that the Sixers’ current uniforms may be seeing their last days. Personally, this day can’t come soon enough. The Sixers meant well when they went back to the old, classic logo and colors (and in an era where it seemed like too many teams were falling back on a crutch of a red-white-blue color scheme, if any team in the NBA needed to have that color scheme, it’s the 76ers), but they missed the mark with the uniforms.
They come off as bland and boring, with none of the character that the previous uniforms with that color scheme had.
Here’s hoping that the Sixers will take this as an opportunity to improve the uniforms and bring some life to the new uniforms, and do it within reason. Yes, it’d be great if they spiced things up a bit, but hopefully they won’t be out there on the court looking like they did back in the early 90’s or anything like that.
What do you think of the news? Do you agree that it’s about time, or are you gonna be sad to see these go?
