After experimenting with a look that was similar to the good ol’ days of European Cup victories back in the early ’80s, Aston Villa Football Club have gone back to their normal look of sorts with their new home kit for 2014-15: Claret shirts with sky blue sleeves.
Of course, it’s not completely basic; there are thin sky blue pinstripes on the main shirt. It’s the first time that Villa have worn pinstripes on their shirt since the late ’80s, which is when they ran out in this regrettable number for 2 whole seasons. That shirt is proof that the ’80s were a scary time. Anyways, it’s clear that this new clean shirt is a pretty big upgrade over the last pinstripe experiment back then, and is pretty solid for this decade as well.
A small detail includes the addition of the club’s motto, “Prepared,” on the tag inside of the collar of the shirt.
The socks are mostly sky blue with a few claret stripes near the top of the sock. The lion that adorns the club’s crest is also on the back of the sock, giving a nice little detail to the socks.
Overall, the entire kit appears to be one of the stronger efforts from suppliers Macron since they took over the rights to Aston Villa from Nike. It was always going to be tough for them to come up with some designs that were on par with those of Nike (who always seem to come up with solid designs for their soccer teams), but this was definitely a great effort on their part, in my opinion.
So, do you guys agree? Is this better than what they had last year? Is it at least better than the nonsense that they wore back in the ’80s?
