2014 World Series, MLB Postseason Logos Revealed

2014 MLB World Series Logo

Thanks to a postseason ticket order form put out by the Oakland Athletics (those over-eager devils) we’ve gotten our first official, full-colour look at the 2014 MLB World Series, LCS, and LDS logos.

There’s really not much to ’em this year.

The marks for each round of the postseason all use the same design style — the font looks to be a mix of “Rama Gothic SemiBold” and “Uncle Sam Slim”.

The text representing the title of the event (“World Series”, “ALCS”, etc.) is arched slightly in blue with the full league name, “Major League Baseball” above in red. The year is added below in red, flanking the MLB logo, with a blue underline on either side of it.

A red, white, and blue colour scheme is now carried on for the third consecutive year; this also seems to finally cement the end of the “two leaves” era of the World Series logo, also omitted in last year’s mark the two leaves appeared in each World Series logo from 2008 through 2012.

What isn’t shown in the primary marks but evident in some of the secondary logos I’ve seen (but not able to show you yet) is a double-pennant mark, used previously in the logos for 2004, 2007, and 2013 (yes, all Boston Red Sox years… doesn’t seem to be their year this time).

The 2014 version of the logo is the first World Series mark since the standardized style used from 19801986 to be nothing but stylized text. Every version from 19872013 included at least one graphical element such as a baseball diamond, globe, leaves, or pennants.
