The Arizona Coyotes will once again be known as Phoenix as they turn back the clock to the late 1990s for one night only during the upcoming 2014-15 NHL season.
According to their official promotional schedule for the upcoming season, the team will be celebrating Throwback Night on Thursday, March 5, 2015 during their game against the Vancouver Canucks:
Thursday, Mar. 5 vs Vancouver Canucks (Throwback Night): Celebrate the Coyotes history in the Valley of the Sun and watch the team play in one of the franchise’s original uniforms. The first 5,000 fans in attendance will receive a throwback Jeremy Roenick Bobble Head
While it’s not specific which jersey the team will throw back to it’s certain to be one of their original three. Either the black road shown at the top of this post, the white version of that same uniform, or the infamous green alternate which showed a desert landscape along the bottom.
On a semi-related note, the 20th anniversary of the Coyotes first game is two years away, October 5, 2016. Their opponents that first night in 1996 was the one and only Hartford Whalers, one of only two games the Coyotes and Whalers ever played against each other. I’m just asking… please let them play the Hurricanes and have them all wear their ’96 uniforms to open up the 2016-17 season. That would be super swell NHL.
