The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, the only hockey team with both a hyphen and a slash in their name, unveiled their new retro-style alternate jerseys earlier today.
From the official release:
The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins unveiled their alternate sweater for the 2014-15 season on Monday morning at the Toyota SportsPlex in Wilkes-Barre.
The jersey, featuring a predominantly sky blue background, is based the road sweaters worn by the Pittsburgh Penguins between 1968 and 1972.
The Penguins will wear the sweaters a minimum of 10 times during the upcoming season, which gets underway on Saturday, October 11 against the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.
Aside from being an obvious homage to the classic Pittsburgh Penguins sweaters of the 60s and 70s, they’re also a reverse-version of the AHL Penguins third jersey in 2006/07. The Baby Pens have unveiled a new, unique alternate jersey for every season since 2002/03.
