You know the sleeved jersey craze has gotten bad when even the Boston Celtics are getting in on it. Granted, the Celtics were one of the teams who wore sleeved jerseys way back in the day, but that’s beside the point. The point is that a team with such a classic look as the Celtics really shouldn’t be trying to hop on this bandwagon. Yet, here we are: The Celtics have unveiled their Pride alternates, and it’s grey and sleeved.
The devil is in the details for this one, as the side striping is a consists of a sublimated parquet pattern. Obviously, this design is meant to bring to mind the unique parquet floor that the Celtics play on. This striping goes down the side of the sleeved jersey and the shorts as well.
The last bit of detail includes the new secondary logo being put in the middle of a green block on the waistband.
I’m just going to come out and say it: This is pretty bad. We thought that they had it bad with that green-and-black alternate uniform. That alternate is miles ahead of this one, in my opinion, and I’d much rather see them wear that than this. The parquet striping is a nice idea in theory, but it’s pretty bad in application, especially when the rest of the uniform is pretty bad. Again, a team with a set of uniforms that are as nice as the Celtics are really shouldn’t be getting into this type of thing, but as long as adidas and the NBA continue to push the idea, we’ll keep on seeing it.
Mercifully, they’ll only be wearing these jerseys for a handful of games this season.
You’ve got a ton of material to go off on here, so fire away. Also, I’d love to hear from anybody who actually likes this.
