Update: The Minnesota Twins have officially unveiled their new home jersey less than 24 hours after the uniform was leaked by an online retailer. The original article, written at the time of the leak appears below. We have added updated content such as new photos and quotes from the team near the end of the original article.
By golly it’s been a while since we’ve seen a new baseball jersey leak early.
The new pinstripe-free home jersey for the Minnesota Twins has been leaked courtesy Majestic Athletic’s online shop. It is currently listed as “Out of Stock” but can be found via the “Customers Also Bought” column on several Twins jersey product pages, you can go directly to the product page of the new jersey
right here, although I can’t imagine it will be live for too long after this article is posted (Update: Scratch that folks — it’s down, removed about an hour after this post).
Anyways, SportsLogos.Net can 100% confirm that this is the new 2015 Minnesota Twins home jersey.
The jersey is plain white with the familiar “Twins” wordmark across the front except now predominantly blue with red trim, as previously reported gold has been added as a drop shadow. Gold is also present as a trim colour on the sleeve patch, as well at the sleeve cuffs and on the collar along with blue and red stripes.
This will be the first major change to a Minnesota Twins home jersey since the 1986-87 offseason, the Twins switched from plain white pullovers with an older-style script to the button-up pinstriped jerseys with an updated script. Minnesota won the World Series their first year in the updated uniforms and then again 4 years later in 1991. The Twins made minor changes to their home jersey in the years since, the latest coming in 2010, but nothing of this scale.
As first reported here last week the Twins are expected to unveil their new jersey sometime in the upcoming week, at the time all we had heard via a Minnesota sports reporter was that it would not feature pinstripes and incorporate gold in some way. There was also news of a new alternate cap expected shortly, which has gold trim around the classic “TC” logo.
(Very big thanks to Twitter user @nburbeck for finding this jersey on the Majestic site, thanks Nate!)
UPDATE (Nov 10/14 10:03am ET):
It appears the Twins have acknowledged this uniform, their president made a few comments about it to a Minnesota-based newspaper (who used a pic from this article without crediting us so… fair trade, I suppose):
“Understanding that we introduced a throwback uniform with pinstripes five years ago, we thought that gave us the liberty to look at something without pinstripes now. Major League Baseball introduced the Kasota gold trim for the All-Star Game, and we really liked it. The colour is symbolic of the sandstone that you see in Target Field, that comes from a quarry near Mankato.”
“We know our fans take great pride in the team’s brand and uniforms, and we think they will appreciate this update to our look. We’re excited about it, and if we’re as successful in changing these uniforms as we were the last time, that’s a good thing, too.”
– Minnesota Twins President Dave St. Peter
From those quotes we can now reveal that the Twins are calling the new shade of gold on their home uniform “Minnesota Kastoa Gold”. The article also noted that the “TC” cap with gold trim would be worn with this home uniform, which makes sense, this is the only uniform with gold and that cap will be the only with gold. The cap is officially listed as an alternate cap in the Twins 2015 style guide.
UPDATE (Nov 10/14 11:45am ET):
The Twins have officially unveiled this uniform via a section on their official website (see it here). Included in that section is a video as well as a fantastic infographic, a portion of which showing the new cap as well as the applications of the new gold below:
