New York City FC Unveils New Uniforms

NYCFC Jersey Unveiled

NYCFC has officially unveiled their new uniform just a few minutes after the jersey was leaked by a blog — our original story about the leak appears below, updates following the official unveiling are included at the end.

NYCFC Kit 1

At 11 AM EST today, New York City FC of MLS will be unveiling their kits for their inaugural MLS season in 2015. As expected, they’ve made a big deal out of the unveiling, with the reveal at 11 set to be a big one in the Big Apple.

However, half an hour ago, we ended up getting a look at the kit, as the design was leaked thanks to the NYCFC-centric blog, Hudson River Blue.

NYCFC Kit 3As you can see, the kit itself is a simple one: Sky blue shirts, white shorts, and probably sky blue socks. This is basically what the team’s parent club, Manchester City FC of the EPL would look like if they were outfitted by adidas instead of Nike, so I’d say that adidas did a good job of keeping the kit as close to the parent club’s look as possible in order to keep the brand synergy going. Also, the patch on the jock tag appears to mark the team’s inaugural season, so we’ll get a better look at that once the unveiling goes down.

We’ll update this post once the uniforms are officially unveiled, but for now, you’ve got a very good sneak preview of what’s to come.

UPDATE:

Here’s a pic of the “larger than life” shirt which they used to reveal the new shirt (with David Villa in the bottom right corner wearing the regular sized kit)

And now here are some clearer pics of the new kit:

NYCFC Kit 5 NYCFC Kit 6 NYCFC Kit 7Again, this is basically what Manchester City would look like if they were outfitted by adidas. Take off the MLS logos, the adidas logo, the 3 stripes, the inaugural season jock tag and the crest and replace it with MCFC’s crest, the Nike logo, and the English Premier League’s logo and you’ve got yourself a Manchester City kit. This was to be expected (especially considering what MCFC’s Australian child Melbourne City FC wears), so it’s not really a surprise that NYCFC looks a lot like their parent club, but that’s not to say that this isn’t a pretty stylish looking kit. It’s hard to mess up a sky blue look, and NYCFC didn’t mess it up.

But what do you guys think? Should they have branched out further from the parent club, or are you fine with this look?
