Introducing the Biloxi Shuckers

Biloxi Shuckers New Logo 2015

The Huntsville Stars are no more. The former Double-A Southern League affiliate of the Oakland Athletics (1985-98) and Milwaukee Brewers (1999-2014) have relocated to Biloxi, Mississippi where they will now be known as the Biloxi Shuckers. The name and logo announced at a fan event held yesterday evening.

The name “Shuckers” was chosen following a name-the-team contest, finalist names included Black Jacks, Mullets, and Schooners. Shuckers is a reference to removing the shell surrounding an oyster.

“Our logo depicts the fun and exciting atmosphere that Minor League Baseball is known for throughout this country. We think that kids are going to love it. The seafood industry is so important to the entire region, and we wanted a name that meant something to the community.” – Shuckers President Ken Young to MiLB.com

The logo was designed by (you know this already) Brandiose, who most recently were responsible for the new look of the San Antonio Missions but have been behind the designs of nearly every Minor League Baseball team rebranding over the past few off-seasons.

Black, sand, “Gulf” blue, and coral are the official team colours – you don’t see pink (sorry, coral) listed as an official team colour too often.

The club will wear four different cap designs during their inaugural season in 2015:

Home Cap: Black featuring a stylized white “B” outlined in blue, in the bottom of the “B” is the oyster from the primary logo

Road Cap: Blue with an interlocking “BS” (for Biloxi Shuckers, guys) in white

Alternate Cap: Black with a blue bill. On the front is an oyster wearing a hat and holding a baseball bat

The Shuckers say they will be unveiling their uniforms at a later date. I’m curious to see just how much coral is used on the actual uniform.
