Yinz gotta see this… the Pittsburgh Pirates are goin’ camo.
Their new digital camouflage alternate uniforms were unveiled this afternoon at “PirateFest” an annual off-season fan event.
Cap crowns and pills are camouflage, bill is black. On the front is a black version of the primary “P” logo with a gold outline.
Jerseys, also digital camouflage, “PIRATES” arched across the front in black and gold — identical jersey wordmark as the white home uniform. Player number to the lower left on the front in black and gold, similar on the back.

On the jersey sleeve is the United States flag, no it’s not backwards, this is the appropriate way to display the flag on the sleeve of a uniform (pretend the player is a flagpole and he’s running forward… how would the flag look? There ya go). On the other sleeve is the standard Pirate head logo with crossed bats.
The Pirates will wear the uniform for every Thursday home game throughout the 2015 season, those games will be:
April 23 vs Cubs
May 7 vs Reds
June 25 vs Reds
July 9 vs Cardinals
July 23 vs Nationals
August 20 vs Giants
September 10 vs Brewers
September 17 vs Cubs
Plus, you gotta figure they’ll probably make another appearance around Memorial Day and the 4th of July.
Pittsburgh joins the San Diego Padres, New York Mets, and Cincinnati Reds as teams to employ a camouflage uniform in their standard jersey rotation. The Atlanta Braves have a patriotic non-camouflage uniform as well.
