Welcome to Las Vegas college football!
Unveiled late last night, the three new uniforms of the UNLV Runnin’ Rebels are full of “Sin City” civic pride.
The new looks are a head-to-toe red, a white jersey with silver helmet, and a black uniform paired with the red helmet from the first set.
Starting with the home reds:
All red jersey, no stripes anywhere. It’s a Nike so it naturally has the flywire collar, but it too is in red. A new number font across the front, shoulders, and back – numbers are silver with black outline as is the “REBELS” word mark above the front numbers. The famous “Hey Reb” logo is on either sleeve.
Helmet is red with black facemask, “UNLV” arched across either side in a silver chrome collegiate/block font trimmed in black. No helmet stripes. A decal is affixed on the back of the helmet showing the oft-photographed-by-tourists “Welcome to Las Vegas” sign.
Pants are red with a black belt, the same “UNLV” wordmark from the helmet is arched across the front of the left pant leg. Going up either leg we see four stars in black and silver in the same style as the stars featured on the “Welcome to Las Vegas” sign, the team says this is a nod to Vegas’ famous “Neon Sign Boneyard”.
The road whites:
A fairly straight reversal of the home reds, jersey is all white again with no stripes. Numbers are still in silver despite being on the lighter jersey colour, this time outlined in red instead of black. Same goes for the “REBELS” wordmark across the chest. “Hey Reb” on the sleeves.
Helmet is silver with a red chrome facemask, “UNLV” arched across the side in red chrome with black trim. The “Welcome to Las Vegas” sticker is also on the back of this helmet.
Pants mix things up a little bit – white with a red belt, same UNLV wordmark across the front left leg but a very large “LAS VEGAS” wordmark is now added on the sides of both legs, running from ankle to hip on the left leg and down from hip to ankle on the right.
Alternate blacks:
The jersey is a black version of the road whites, silver numbers/REBELS wordmark with red trim and the Reb logo on the sleeves. The Nike collar is red and black on this version so unfortunately you will be aware that it still exists on this set.
Helmet is same as the home uniform. Again with the sign decal on the back.
Pants are black with a red belt, same UNLV wordmark on the front left leg in white and red. The four stars on the home red pants are also featured on this set, now in red and silver.
“Las Vegas is so important to our University and our football program wants to be a big part of the Las Vegas community,” new UNLV head coach Tony Sanchez said in the press release. “We are fortunate to live in one of the world’s great destinations and these uniform designs are one of the ways we will proudly represent our city.”
This marks a return after 35 years to a red helmet for the football team, the Rebels had been wearing a silver lid exclusively since the switch from red in 1981.
