The Brevard County Manatees will go from shallow water to deep space this weekend, officially changing their name to the Brevard County Space Explorers for Kennedy Space Center Weekend May 7-9.

The team’s space-themed uniforms, designed by NASA cryogenics engineer Angela Krenn, will feature imagery taken by the Kennedy Space Center’s Hubble Telescope.
On the cap, a Space Explorer logo is set over an image of our solar system’s largest planet, the gas giant Jupiter. The great red spot, a massive storm that’s existed for at least 300 years, appears prominently next to the cap logo.
The most notable feature on the jersey is the comet ISON (aka C/2012 S1, for you astronomers out there). ISON was a media darling when it was discovered in 2012, but sadly, it did not survive a trip too close to the sun in 2013. Its memory will live on at Space Coast Stadium this weekend, though, immortalized on the uniforms of the Milwaukee Brewers’ high-A Florida State League affiliate.
The uniforms will be auctioned off starting May 7 on the team’s website.
