Quebec City, get ready to go nuts.
Media giant Quebecor Inc. has announced that it has submitted an official bid to bring an NHL hockey team back to Quebec City:
Note that they specifically said “bring the Nordiques back”, not even entertaining the thought of using a new name. This would also be as an expansion club, so… Coyotes and Panthers fans… relax.
A Quebec expansion team would play in the brand new, state-of-the-art Videotron Centre built beside the just closed Colisée which had been home to the Nordiques during the entirety of their time in the NHL. The groundbreaking ceremony for the new arena was even attended by former Nords players wearing their old jerseys:
This would be Quebec’s third NHL franchise, in addition to the Nordiques who moved to Denver after playing in the league from 1979-1995, the Quebec Bulldogs spent a single season in the league in 1920 before relocating to Hamilton in the first relocation in NHL history.
