As part of thirtieth anniversary celebrations surrounding the release of the basketball movie “Hoosiers”, the Indiana Pacers will don the burgundy and gold threads of the Hickory team featured in the film during select games over the next several seasons.
“Our team will be honoured to wear the Hickory uniforms because of the attention it will bring to the storied history of Indiana basketball and the success of that movie.” — Larry Bird, Pacers President of Basketball Operations
This will be the first time a team in the big four sports leagues will wear a uniform based entirely on a movie; the Chicago White Sox wore throwbacks made popular by the film Field of Dreams in the early 1990s (at a time when throwback uniforms were never worn in games) but those were actual White Sox uniforms.
The movie is based on the story of a small-town Indiana high school team going all the way to win the Indiana High School Basketball Championships in the 1950s.
