Good news: The CFL has stopped templating the Grey Cup logo from year-to-year.
Bad news: It’s now got a corporate logo on it.
According to an article in The Toronto Star the Canadian Football League will announce that Grey Cup 104 will be held at Toronto’s BMO Field in November 2016. Included in their article was the logo the league will reportedly use, a silver Toronto skyline within a shield and a large Grey Cup in the back. This information has all since been 100% confirmed to us at SportsLogos.Net
It’s amazing I noticed any of this, all I could see was “Presented by/Présentée Par Shaw” below the skyline in blue.
The Grey Cup this fall will be also be presented by Shaw but it appears next year it will be be taken one step further when their logo is included, it will be the first time any logo other than the CFL’s has been included in the event logo. Speaking to that, oddly enough there is no CFL logo present in this version.
The game will be played at Toronto’s BMO Field making it the first Grey Cup held outdoors in Toronto since the infamous “Rain Bowl” at old Exhibition Stadium in 1982. Several Grey Cups were played at SkyDome/Rogers Centre in the past 25 years however with Rogers and the Toronto Blue Jays now looking to make their stadium more baseball-exclusive the league is taking its show down the road to BMO, the home of Toronto FC of Major League Soccer.
You may notice the lack of the Rogers Centre from the skyline in this logo.
