If the Major League Baseball playoffs seems to have taken on a certain color palette of late, it’s not your imagination. Noted sports designer Todd Radom pointed this out in his weekly segment on Buster Olney’s Baseball Tonight podcast: With the St. Louis Cardinals being eliminated earlier today, six of the final seven teams still playing have royal blue as the featured color in their identity.
The last outlier is the Houston Astros, whose orange is blue’s complement on the color wheel, for what that’s worth. Of course, depending on how the Astros-Royals game 5 goes, the baseball playoffs could be 100 percent blue by the end of the day.
