The Phoenix Suns will get the young 2015-16 season off on the right foot tonight when they take to the floor against the Portland Trailblazers. During the game, they’ll pay homage to the newest member of their Ring of Honor, Steve Nash, by wearing his image on their Stance Hoops brand socks.

“When it was announced that we were inducting Steve Nash into the Ring of Honor, I knew it would be a special night and I wanted to try something different,” said the team’s equipment manager Jay Gaspar, quoted on NBA.com. “I knew Stance is known for designing socks with images of athletes. They haven’t done anything like this on a performance sock, only casual. I had no idea if it would even be allowed by the NBA.”
Well, the NBA will allow it, and the Suns will make weird league history tonight. They’ll become the first NBA team to wear a player’s likeness anywhere on their uniforms during a game—let alone on their socks.
