Gray uniforms in sports are all the rage right now. We all know that black-for-black’s sake isn’t going away any time soon, and it appears that gray-for-gray’s sake will be joining its darker counterpart as well. Nowhere is this more evident than in the NBA, which is seeing teams pick up gray alternates for no reason other than “it looks cool.”
With that being said, this trend officially reached its peak in the NBA when we saw two teams both wearing gray at the same time. The Atlanta Hawks’ road uniforms are a very dark shade of gray (“Georgia Granite Gray”, to be exact), and the Brooklyn Nets decided to break out their Dodgers-inspired gray-and-blue sleeved alternates. Yes, we got a gray-on-gray matchup in the NBA.
I’m sure that some of you will probably know better than me on this, but I’m pretty sure that this is the first time that two teams have managed to wear the same color during a color-on-color matchup in the NBA. Granted, the two shades of gray here are so distinct that it actually managed to work when it come to contrasts, but yeah — this fad has officially reached its peak.
I don’t think that the Nets and Hawks meant to be (for lack of a better term) trailblazers in this regard, but they managed to accomplish an amazing feat. It’s all downhill from this point forward. The gray fad has officially peaked, folks.
