On Boxing Day, English soccer club Manchester City will be unveiling their new crest that they’ll be using for the 2016-17 season and beyond. After a consultation period with their core fanbase, City announced that the new crest would be roundel-based and would be very similar to their old crests from the past.
Earlier, the club was seen posting teasers of their new crest around the city of Manchester with the phrase “A Single Red Rose” placed within a circle. If that wasn’t a strong hint that the new crest would look very similar to the old crest, then I don’t know what else could be.
Well, thanks to Britain’s Intellectual Property Office, the new crest has leaked a few days before its official unveiling.
As expected, this crest not only bears strong similarities to the crests of old, but it also looks very similar to the crests that the other clubs in the City Football Group are using right now.
Now that you’ve gotten a first look at the crest before the official unveiling, what do you think? Personally, I’m always a fan of putting a modern twist on old classic logos, and this is no different. Do you agree with me for this particular case, or do you think City should’ve stayed with their old crest or gone in a different direction?
