As we say our goodbyes to 2015 we’re taking a look back at what most interested you guys, the readers of SportsLogos.Net, during the year.
Using our “unique visitors” counts via our stat tracking software we’ve determined the most popular team pages as well as the most read news stories of 2015.
Starting with the most popular teams:
The New England Patriots were the most visited team on the site during the year, thanks to their victory over the Seattle Seahawks (who finished 12th) in Super Bowl XLIX. While the Pats had the most unique visitors, the most visited team in terms of overall pageviews was the runner-up Atlanta Hawks. The Hawks both unveiled a new logo plus we gave their logo section a nice makeover, those two combined to bump them right up to #2.
New logos for NBA teams in Milwaukee, Toronto, Los Angeles, and Philadelphia as well as the NFL Cleveland Browns got those clubs into the top 10; while championship appearances by the Warriors and Cavs placed them at 5 and 6 respectively (the Warriors, once again, coming out on top). Three Chicago clubs also cracked our top 13 list, all three of those team pages were linked to by various Chicago newspapers at some point during the year which really helped their totals.
As for the top read news stories, really there’s no surprise (to me anyways) as to what took the top spot:
We broke the news about the Toronto Maple Leafs getting a new logo and uniforms for the 2016-17 season, it was linked to by every major sports site in North America as well as every news outlet in Canada. Despite this story going live within the last three weeks of the year, that was all the time it needed to be the number one most read news story on SportsLogos.Net in 2015.
Finishing behind the Leafs story was another NHL piece, my poster showing the uniform worn by every Stanley Cup championship team the night they won the cup:
This graphic went semi-viral, people loved the idea, and I’m happy to say there will be some exciting news about this graphic early in the new year, so stay tuned for that!
Finishing out the top 5, we had the Philadelphia 76ers getting passive aggressive with Wells Fargo on their court design, the MASSIVE leak of new NBA uniforms for 2014-15 came in 4th, and our breaking story about details on the then-unreleased new Toronto Raptors uniform in 5th.
In case you missed it earlier, we announced our best new logos of 2015 in a post two weeks ago…
