Rockets and Wizards are set to debut Chinese New Year alt uniforms

NBA Chinese New Year 2016
Last year, the Golden State Warriors and Houston Rockets reached out to their fanbase in China by paying tribute to the dawning of a new Chinese Lunar New Year by wearing jerseys with the wordmark in Chinese.

This year, the Rockets and Warriors will both commemorate the occasion, and a new team is going to be joining in on the celebrations as well: The Washington Wizards.

The Rockets have decided against wearing a sleeved version of their jerseys, and instead they’ll just be going with their regular red uniforms with Chinese characters on them instead of the normal English look.

The Wizards are going for a similar look as well, in that they’ll just be wearing their regular uniforms with a Chinese wordmark on them. The Wizards will debut these jerseys on February 3rd.

February 3rd is when Washington will be hosting the Warriors, who will be wearing the same Chinese New Year uniforms that they wore last year. The Warriors will also wear the uniforms when they host the Rockets on February 9th, and it’ll probably be safe to assume that the Rockets will bring their Chinese New Year threads with them.

Overall, I think it’s very cool that these teams are paying tribute to their Chinese fanbase by doing this. The Rockets have had a strong presence in China thanks to Yao Ming, the Warriors have made big-time efforts to reach out to their Chinese fans both locally and abroad, and the Wizards’ home arena is actually located in the Chinatown district of D.C. Again, it’s always nice to see teams recognize the diverse cultures in their fanbase, so this is definitely a cool idea for the teams.
