Houston Astros bring back Tequila Sunrise with alternate uniforms

Earlier this week, we got word that the Houston Astros would be unveiling a new blue alternate jersey, and there were rumors that the famous rainbow/Tequila Sunrise design that the Astros utilized during the 70s and 80s would be making a small return in these uniforms.

Indeed, that turned out to be the case when the Astros unveiled their alternate uniforms and a new alternate cap as well. The rainbow design will run up the side of the jersey, and it’s very similar to the batting practice uniforms that the Astros currently use.

Here’s a look at the alternate cap as well, which is simple enough: An orange crown with a blue brim, which gives the Astros two orange hats and two blue hats now.

Houston will wear these uniforms as Sunday home alternates, so if you’re in the Houston area and you want to see the mini-revival of the Tequila Sunrise, then you might want to make sure that you’re at the ballpark on a Sunday afternoon this year.

In my opinion, I’d say that these are actually the weakest uniforms in the Astros’ uniform set. It’s a bit too similar to their BP jerseys, and they honestly would’ve been better off translating their BP hat design into an alternate hat design. However, if you’re going to have a uniform like this, then you may as well make sure that you don’t wear them too often and a Sunday alt will make sure that this is the case.

What do you think, though? Do you like the new Astros alternates, or are you a bit underwhelmed like I am?
