One of the many pratfalls of having multiple alternate uniforms that are the same color is the possibility that one of the players could come out wearing the wrong gear. We’ve seen it multiple times in the past, but the latest victim is probably the highest-profile victim of the ol’ uniform switcheroo, yet.
For tonight’s ABC NBA Primetime game between the San Antonio Spurs and the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Cavs chose to wear their yellow 1970s throwbacks. Everybody got the memo and dressed accordingly — except for LeBron James, who came out wearing the wrong pair of yellow shorts. Instead of the throwbacks, LeBron wore the alternate shorts. Whoops!
The situation was rectified pretty quickly, as LeBron was able to change into the correct pair of shorts during the middle of the first quarter. Crisis resolved! So, who was to blame for this? According to cleveland.com writer Chris B. Haynes, this one is on the locker room attendants.
I’d say that this is on the Cavs as a whole for choosing to have two yellow alternates, but that’s neither here or there.
