JLA Final Season Logo

The Detroit Red Wings unveiled the commemorative logo for their final season in Joe Louis Arena on Thursday.

The logo is mostly rectangular, with an arch over the top and the Red Wings’ logo breaking the line of the bottom. The background is red with white text and a grey border.

Inside the arch is are the words “Farewell Season” and four stars, each representing a Stanley Cup Championship won in the arena. The body of the rectangle contains the words “The Joe” with the silhouette of the Stanley Cup making up the negative space of the O in Joe. To either side of the word “the” are white banners with red text reading “1979” and “2017,” the first and last years of the arena’s use. The Winged Wheel overlaps the bottom of the O.

The logo will be worn on the left shoulder of both Detroit’s home and away sweaters and will appear on other merchandise throughout the season. It was revealed along with a set of announcements about the team’s final season before moving to their new arena.

The Red Wings moved into Joe Louis Arena on December 27, 1979. They are expected to move into the new Detroit Events Center – which will carry a sponsor’s name – for the start of the 2017-18 NHL season.
