We’ve entered the home stretch when it comes to Major League Soccer’s 2016 kit rollout, and today we’ve got three striking new kits coming from two teams: The Houston Dynamo and the Seattle Sounders.
First, let’s take a look at the Dynamo’s new away kit, and they’ve decided to take a departure from their normal choice of wearing white as an away kit. Instead, they’ve gone in the complete opposite direction — black.
It’s a bold choice for the Dynamo, but it works mostly because of the lovely chevron on the chest of the shirt. I don’t know if it’s a tribute to the Houston Astros and their Tequila Sunrise days, but it’s definitely a good look Houston and I’m sure the cross-section of Astros and Dynamo fans will appreciate it, even if it isn’t an intentional tribute.
The Dynamo will be decked out from head to toe in black, with their shade of “space blue” being used as trim. Overall, it’s a pretty good look for Houston, and their change of pace should make their fans pretty happy. I’m especially happy with the fact that the Adidas stripes on the sides are just a lighter shade of black, which means that it blends in with the rest of the shirt instead of distracting from the chevron on the chest, which should be the focus. That was a great decision, in my opinion.
Meanwhile in Cascadia, the Seattle Sounders revealed two new kits, because everything’s just bigger when it comes to Seattle and MLS, right?
The rave green kit is obviously their home kit, and for the first time, they’ve decided to go with blue sleeves. Additionally, the sublimated stripes on the shirt are actually really small, stylized “S” logos. These factors combine to make a simple yet effective home kit for the Sounders.

Additionally, the Sounders revealed a third kit that they’ll probably wear for the US Open Cup and CONCACAF Champions League games.
Again, both of these shirts work for the Sounders, and they’ll be looking good for the 2016 season. Are they better than the Dynamo’s new look? Worse? Are they about on the same level? Where do you think they rank in the ranks of new kits this season?
