The Lehigh Valley IronPigs have announced they will be known as the Cheesesteaks for one night only in 2016, a nod to their in-state Major League affiliate, the Philadelphia Phillies. This follows the popular “Taco Night” promotion held by the Fresno Grizzlies last season (and will again this Summer) in which their players wore special Tacos jerseys and caps.
At the time the IronPigs (perhaps playfully) accused the Grizzlies of stealing their food-themed idea with a Tweet comparing the Tacos cap with the IronPigs bacon-style caps and the message “The original is always better than the sequel”. Things got heated rather quickly in that exchange:
How do you respond to something like that? Why, you steal back your own idea of course!
The logos and uniforms were designed by Brandiose, and (as always) they did a stellar job, turning a one-night-only promo into a package that is just as good (if not better) than most overall Minor League Baseball brands.
Fans are being given the option of having their steaks with or without onions, use the hashtags seen in the image above on Twitter to cast your vote.
The uniforms will be worn on June 10th, merchandise (with and without onions) is available now.
