The Chattanooga Lookouts, Southern League Double-A affiliate of the Minnesota Twins, unveiled their new uniforms via an event earlier this morning. Despite the affiliation with the Twins, the uniforms appear to be more of a mix between the Cincinnati Reds and the old Negro League Kansas City Monarchs. This replaces last year’s set which, despite no longer being affiliated with them, still looked a lot like the Los Angeles Dodgers. So, not much love for the Twins identity in there at all (Note: it’s not necessarily a bad thing for a Minor League team to have their own look, just, if you’re going to mimic a big league club it should be your own affiliate).
Three jerseys were shown off, a cream home jersey with red sleeves, a grey road jersey with red piping and a number with jumps sides (compare the photo above with the mockup below), and a plain black alternate which reads “‘NOOGA” across the chest in white. Guess which of these three I received the most negative Tweets about?
Quite worth noting — that black alternate jersey is paired with a new ballcap, simply a set of floating cartoon eyeballs from the Lookouts classic primary logo (see photo at top). Love it.
