The Women’s National Basketball Association will have a colourful look throughout their 20th anniversary season this Summer.
Yesterday, the league announced that every game will feature a colour vs colour uniform matchup. Each team will have two sets of uniforms, one in their primary colour and the other in their secondary. There will not be a single white uniform in the league. Every team retains it’s previous uniform style, the colours just added in place of the white.
I gotta say, this is pretty awesome.
As long as colours contrast enough there’s really no need for a white uniform anymore, an idea the NBA has really flirted with throughout this season and in the past during the annual Christmas games. The WNBA becomes the first league in the modern era to implement it league-wide, season-long.
In addition to the all-colour uniforms, the league announced that ten teams will have a Verizon logo placed under the numbers on the front of the jersey. This results in two sponsor logos now on some team uniforms, one above and one below the numbers.
The three charter members of the league will wear a special 20th anniversary patch on the front left shoulder area of the jersey, a 20th anniversary logo for the WNBA will appear on the back of the jersey above the player name.
Dallas Wings, a new team relocated from Tulsa, did not have their uniforms revealed as part of this announcement.
