A couple of years ago, the Lehigh Valley IronPigs of the AAA-level International League unveiled their highly unique identity, which included a hat with a single strip of bacon on the crown. This is also the same club that plans to become the Lehigh Valley Cheesesteaks for a night, so clearly this baseball club knows its way around tasty meat. Now, the IronPigs have unveiled new uniforms for the upcoming season, and they include a major tribute to bacon.
The team’s Saturday uniform has more bacon than you can handle, as they’ve apparently declared themselves as the Bacon capital of the world with their new “Bacon, USA” uniforms. From the hat, to the sleeves, to the pants, bacon is everywhere on this uniform.
Also, the IronPigs have introduced “Storm Gray” to their color scheme, which they will be wearing on their new away uniforms and their steel-themed Friday uniforms. The gray is very similar to the gray that the Diamondbacks are wearing for their new uniforms, so that particular trend is starting to spread into the minor leagues.
To complete the team’s weekend alternate uniform set, the IronPigs will be paying tribute to their parent club’s old look from the ’70s and ’80s with a fauxback baby-blue jersey. The “IronPigs” script looks like it was ripped straight off of an old Philadelphia Phillies jersey, and the jersey itself is a pullover, so they really went for the throwback look here.
Finally, the IronPigs unveiled a new batting practice jersey, which looks pretty snazzy for it to simply be just a BP jersey. In fact, there’s a reason for that, which you’ll see after looking at the pictures.
The IronPigs have actually come to an agreement with Majestic that makes them the first and only minor league club in baseball to wear uniforms by Majestic. That means that they’re wearing the same material (Majestic FlexBase) that big league clubs are wearing, leading the team to adopt the motto of “If it’s worn in the Bigs, it’s worn by the Pigs.”
“This brand-new authentic collection from Majestic allows our fans to ‘wear what the pros wear before the pros do’ as it will be identical to the uniform and outerwear collection that will be worn on-field by the Lehigh Valley IronPigs.” exclaimed IronPigs President and General Manager Kurt Landes. “We couldn’t be more excited to continue to grow our amazing partnership with Majestic® Athletic as this agreement will directly benefit our players and fans.”
“This collaboration marks a milestone for Majestic Athletic and represents the debut of our Flex Base uniform system in Minor League Baseball,” said Jim Pisani, Majestic Athletic President. “The IronPigs have an outstanding organization and we’re thrilled that our long-standing partnership has evolved into becoming their exclusive on-field uniform provider. This is the perfect alliance both on the baseball field and in the Lehigh Valley community.”
So basically, the IronPigs will be able to serve as a guinea pig of sorts for Majestic when it comes to ideas for their baseball uniform technology, and it’s clear just by the fact that the IronPigs now have a plethora of uniforms to choose from that Lehigh Valley is pretty happy with the current deal.
But what do you all think of the new uniforms? Love them? Hate them? Are you all of a sudden smelling bacon?
