Is this a leak?
The Toronto Maple Leafs’ official Twitter account today tweeted out a graphic promoting the 2016 NHL Rookie Tournament in which they’ll be participating this autumn, just prior to the 2016-17 regular season.
Four team logos are featured in the logo being used to promote the event, the Leafs, Ottawa Senators, Montreal Canadiens, and the Pittsburgh Penguins. Toronto’s shown with their new logo for 2017, Pittsburgh is shown with their retro throwback logo.
Hmm.
As we’ve known for a while now, the Penguins will be changing their logo and uniforms next season, to what extent exactly is not yet known. With the popularity of the retro-coloured alternate uniform and logo lately all speculation leads to the club changing to the logo you see at the top of this post (which is of course the one also used in the Rookie Tournament logo above)
Changes to any team logos and uniforms are usually made around the time of the NHL Entry Draft (just can’t resist getting those young draft picks in the new look!). This year the draft will be held on June 24th.
