Ever since 2008, the Cleveland Indians decided to spice things up by adding a cream alternate jersey to their uniform set, and they wore those uniforms during the weekend. The uniforms were pretty popular, and they also signaled the introduction of a red cap with a navy block C, which looks pretty good in my opinion.
However, Cleveland’s decided that it’s time for those uniforms to go in the archives, because according to a report from Paul Hoynes, the team has decided to drop the cream alternates.
Personally, I think it’s unfortunate that these uniforms are going to go by the wayside. It’s also a pretty big surprise, in my opinion. These uniforms were a perfect fit with the team’s current road uniforms, and with the way that the team has been distancing itself from the Chief Wahoo logo, it seemed like it was only a matter of time before these uniforms were promoted to primary status, while the current home uniform would be demoted to an alternate status. Instead, the cream alternates will be going away now.
What is interesting is that the red caps will be staying. Does that mean that they”ll be stay with a new alternate uniform? Will they just be worn with the other uniforms? Who knows at this point? Either way, I’m sad to see the cream alternates go. Do you agree?
