Beijing 2022 Olympic Committee Announces Call for Logos

The organizing committee for the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing is looking for designers to create logos for both the Olympics and the Paralympics. A lot of details are missing from the call for ideas, like technical specifications and whether the designers will actually be paid for their work, but the committee has indicated that concepts should be inspiring and represent China to the world. The contest is open to designers worldwide, with a deadline of November 30, 2016.

“The emblem is the most important visual image element of the Olympic Games and constitutes the basis of the Olympic Games branding system,” said Organizing Committee General Secretary Han Zirong, quoted in Shanghai Daily. “It tells the stories of the Olympic Games and conveys the culture and ideologies of the hosting nations.” (Here’s hoping that since the logo is so important, they’ll pay a professional to do it right.)

The 2022 games, whose motto is “A Pure Passion for Ice and Snow,” will be the first Winter Olympics ever held in China, and Beijing will surpass Vancouver, Canada, as the largest city to host the Winter Olympics. Beijing, which hosted the 2008 Summer Games, will also become the first city to host the Olympics in both the summer and winter.
