Earlier this year thanks to a leaked image, we learned the Toronto Raptors would be wearing a Toronto Huskies throwback uniform at some point in 2016-17.
Now thanks to a Tweet from the Raptors, it appears tomorrow’s the day that’ll finally be officially announced.
If the leaked image above is accurate, and we have no reason to believe it wouldn’t be, the Raptors will be wearing the Huskies all blue road uniform worn originally 70 years ago during 1946-47, their one and only season in the Basketball Association of America (which eventually became today’s NBA). The Huskies hosted the first game in league history during, a 68-66 loss to the New York Knicks at Maple Leaf Gardens on November 1, 1946.
The Raptors and Huskies are not the same franchise nor share any history, the Huskies folded after the 1947 season and the Raptors joined as an expansion team in 1995.
The teaser video attached to the Raptors’ Tweet shows flashes of a husky face, the phrases “We Unleash Our Past, Worlds Will Collide”, and includes the colours red (Raptors) and blue (Huskies) sprinkled in with the usual black and white.
The Raptors have previously worn Huskies throwbacks during parts of two seasons, in 1996-97 for the 50th anniversary of the NBA and again in 2009-10 because, well, gotta throw back to something, amiright?
