Remember when it seemed “Knights” was out?
Guess what.
Thanks to some early bird gets the worming by Clark Rasmussen of DetroitHockey.Net we’ve learned that Black Knight Sports and Entertainment, the official name of the company which owns the new Las Vegas NHL franchise has trademarked three new nicknames (using two different locale options).
They are…
Las Vegas Desert Knights
Las Vegas Golden Knights
Las Vegas Silver Knights
Vegas Desert Knights
Vegas Golden Knights
Vegas Silver Knights
These names were all trademarked with the United States Patent and Trademark Office on August 23rd.
Of all these names, as Rasmussen notes, the team seems to only have the web domain for “Desert Knights” locked up while the others are some of the hundreds already registered by squatters. So, that could be a thing.
Two weeks ago we reported that the team had registered domains for three “Hawk” related names, “Nighthawks”, “Desert Hawks”, and “Red Hawks”. We quickly learned through an anonymous source that while the club had indeed hoped to use those names they had since decided against them and were moving on to something else. None of those “Hawks” names were ever filed as a trademark.
The team is expecting to announce their final choice in the coming weeks, a logo is also expected to be ready in time for a pre-season game in the Nevada city scheduled to take place in early October.
Las Vegas Desert Knights is looking pretty solid right now… I’d bank on that being the name, and you could have some fun with that as a logo too.
