San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick has been embroiled in plenty of controversy since his decision to sit during the playing of the U.S. national anthem became public. However, this hasn’t deterred fans from supporting him. In fact, it’s resulted in a surge of support for the player, to the point where his jersey has now become a hot commodity.
According to Darren Rovell of ESPN, Kaepernick’s jersey is now the best seller for the 49ers, and his jersey sales have surged in comparison to the past few months. Granted, that makes sense because not too many people are going to buy jerseys during the offseason, but it surely can’t be a coincidence that this player’s sales in particular have gone up.
When Kaepernick made his decision to protest the anthem public, he acknowledged that this might cost him financially. While that could still be the case in the future, it doesn’t appear to be happening in right now. Whether people are buying Kaepernick jerseys to wear them (with some public figures wearing them in extremely public places) or to burn them, the fact still remains that his jersey sales are doing pretty big numbers right now, and that’s only a good thing for Kaepernick in the short term.
