Major League Baseball has created a special accented version of its famous silhouetted batter logo in recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month.
On Opening Day 2016 more than a quarter of all MLB players were of Latino descent and an accent (or tilde) has been added to the jersey name of 25 players (and coaches) since the beginning of the 2015 season.
The special MLB “Acento” logo will be worn on batting practice t-shirts worn by players prior to a handful of games between now and the end of the 2016 regular season. The logo will also be prominently used in ballparks and throughout MLB’s traditional and social media channels. All thirty teams will wear the logo on a pre-game batting practice shirt (re-coloured accordingly for each team) at some point before the end of the season.
