Last season, the Indiana Pacers unveiled one of the most unique alternate uniforms in NBA history — uniforms that were inspired by the uniforms that the protagonists wore in the iconic basketball movie “Hoosiers.”
If you were a fan of these unique “throwback” uniforms, then we’ve got good news to share with you: The Pacers will keep on wearing these alternate uniforms into the upcoming season. The Pacers announced that they will be having six “Decade Games” this season as part of their 50th season celebration. As such, they’ll be wearing these uniforms for at least six home games in 2016-17.
From the press release:
In addition to the Decade Games, the Pacers will once again wear their Hickory uniforms, made famous by the movie Hoosiers, for six home games during the 2016-17 season. As part of the NBA Pride Collection, the Hickory uniform is a tribute to the rich tradition of basketball in the State of Indiana and will serve as an inspiration to fans everywhere that no matter how improbable the challenge may be, amazing things can be accomplished through teamwork, determination, heart, and hustle. Similar to Hickory games last season, each Hickory game during 2016-17 will honor teams or individuals who have embodied the spirit of Hickory.
For these to be “throwbacks,” the uniforms were pretty polarizing — it seemed as if fans were either completely enamored with these uniforms or hated the gimmick. It seems as if the Pacers themselves are pretty satisfied with the look, because they’re bringing them back for at least another season.
So, where do you stand? Are you glad to see these movie unis on the real-life court again? Or should they have kept these on the silver screen?
