Cleveland Cavaliers will play on new court design in 2016-17

After breaking the city of Cleveland’s excruciatingly-long championship drought with an NBA title this past Summer, the Cleveland Cavaliers will be playing on a new court design.

As you can see, the sidelines/baselines are now mostly black, instead of the navy perimeter that they went with ever since LeBron’s return to Cleveland. Why did they go with black? Here’s the explanation from the Cavs:

The maple hardwood playing surface features a light stain throughout the entire court and is framed with a bold black perimeter that is spirited off of the Cavs popular sleeved black uniforms. The lane is solid wine with bright gold accents.

I highly disagree with the idea that the Cavs’ sleeved black uniforms are popular, but hey, they actually dared to wear those jerseys during the NBA Finals and actually clinched the title in those monstrosities, so what do I know?

With that being said, I do like the sublimated sword that is running vertically up the half court line, and the rest of the court’s design is solid. Other than the weird shoehorning of black into the court’s color scheme, it’s not a terrible design at all — just not as good as it could possibly be.

Do you agree with me, or do you think that this is actually one of the better court designs in the NBA? Let us know what you think!
